  7. A nine year old Broughty Ferry boy may have had a close encounter with the
  8. unidentified flying object a week before.
  9.  
  10. The boy was out playing along Broughty Ferry Esplanade at around 8pm last
  11. Tuesday when he saw a strange object in the sky.
  12.  
  13. He ran home to tell his mother what he had seen, describing the object as "like
  14. a rugby ball with lights on it" and even drew a picture.
  15.  
  16. He said the moving object was about "five-lamp-posts away and bigger than the
  17. moon."
  18.  
  19. But his mother dismissed the story as merely a tall tale - until this morning
  20. when she heard about the story of the 12 year olds claiming to have seen a UFO
  21. in nearby Orchar Park.

  23. "I phoned RAF Leuchars on Wednesday night to see if they knew anything and they
  24. suggested he may have seen a planet or something in the atmosphere, so I just
  25. thought that's all it must have been.
  26.  
  27. "But my son is convinced he saw something else - something strange."
  28.  
  29. Last night's spectacle may have been witnessed by others.

  31. A grandmother driving along Lawside Road towards Dundee Royal Infirmary with
  32. her 15 year old grand-daughter said she saw an unidentified flying object
  33. heading across the night sky from east to west at 8:15.
  34.  
  35. "It was the shape of a plane but looked strange because it was lit very
  36. brightly with yellow lights and flying awfully low. We expected to see smoke
  37. because we both thought it was coming down."

  39. The children of an amateur astronomer in the Broughty area also believe they
  40. saw something at about the same time as the Orchar Park sighting.

  42. It has been suggested that the sightings may be someone flying a radio-
  43. controlled model, but the astronomer has his own theories.
  44.  
  45. He believes that the answer may lie with energy and US government experiments
  46. to alter the stratosphere.
